Modelon GmbH

Modelon's competence is the computer simulation of multi-physical technical systems, especially focused on electric and hybrid cars. The product offerings are system simulation software tools designed by Modelon and used by development engineers as well as according engineering and consulting services.

Project: Simulation of the E-Mobility
By simulating the complex functional relationships of electric and hybrid cars Modelon's, solutions contribute to the development of future vehicles' energy management, functional development and operational strategy and will help to reduce emissions and energy consumption.

From space to industry
The approach of system simulation was picked up by aerospace engineers and researchers at the first. Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt DLR have used it among others for the development of space robots and other robotics applications and thereby has contributed significantly to the break through of this technology.

To adopt the basic technology of system simulation, additional simulation libraries for automotive and energy applications have been programmed by Modelon and others.

The benefit of this technology is put in a nutshell by a statement of BMW's human resources director Ernst Baumann in a 2008 interview with VDI-Nachrichten:

"Development hardware, i.e. test components and special tools are a huge cost pool in the research and development sector. We eminently want to save money by using virtual simulation methods, in order to save the number of real prototypes and thereby reduce the development effort."

Up to today, Modelon has alredy grown to a staff of 15 and sells its services to technology leading automotive companies like Audi, BMW, Daimler and MAN.

ESA Business Incubation
Johannes Gerl is the co-founder of Modelon GmbH. The company is hosted at ESA's Business Incubator in Anwendungszentrum Oberpfaffenhofen and receives the incubator's support in terms of funding, high level office space, public relations, business contacts and contacts to research institutions.

Incubation
Modelon GmbH is being hosted at the ESA Business Incubation centre at Anwendungszentrum Oberpfaffenhofen from October 2009 to October 2011.
